Waitresses will never be paid hourly. It starts at $2.15/hr . At the same time you can't tell any customer how to tip you. Bartenders make better money. $5, $10, $15 an hour plus tips. I made $200 up to $500 a day as a bartender. I averaged $500 to $700 week as a waitress. Both jobs 40 hrs week. Gotta take the bad with the good. Waitresses have to make enough tips to average the minimum wage of your state. Because your manager is not going to want to pay you the difference. Gotta claim the right amount of tips because usually they won't pay the difference. They will sometimes retrain you so you can learn how to make tips.
go to Little Mom and Pop places like this tip good all the time this one particular time the food wasn't that good small portions and you have a server like this never came back to the table never asked if we wanted anything like more water more coffee but expects to get a tip it don't matter what my bill was if you're not a good server you're not getting tipped good we don't know if she was a good server or not we just get her tripping because she didn't get no more than $2 was you a good server did you cater to their needs or did you just bring them their food and expect a tip

it's not the customers responsibility unfortunately to pay a waitress/er wages our country needs to change how our restaurants pay their staff I feel badly for them because they work so hard and get so little.
