It is synergistic. The crayfish fertilizer the rice plants and keep the rice crop pests down. When the rice is harvested so are the crayfish. A 2 for one you might say. The farmer benefits from both financially. Great for the environment as no pesticides or herbicides are used doing this .

These arent Lobster and crayfish taste like mud.. but im assuming its to eat bugs and fertilize. If you use Fishman water its always good for your plants when you change your tank.. same idea.

they're scavengers so they get rid of dead organic matter, they fertilize the dirt/water and also they aerate the substrate...maybe. alot of crabs burrow into the substrate and this aerates the soil and helps aquatic plants grow.

That's Crawfish & he dumped them in a rice field. It's where they live & thrive & multiply. Don't ask me how I know, clearly I'm a Crawfish & reporting live from a rice patty party in Plaquemines Parish.

Louisiana rice farmers do this for three reasons, They put crawfish in the rice patties. Yes, partly for pest control. Weevils is the biggest issue with rice in Louisiana. #1 rice water weevils , Crawfish, disturb the weevils environment and prevents weevils from getting started , 2nd herbicide, Crawfish feed on weed seeds and it keeps weeds and other unwanted vegetation from growing in the rice patties. #3 Crawfish, in Louisiana is the largest aquaculture commodity with over 180,000 acres devoted to crawfish farming. So basically, the crawfish in the rice serves 3 purposes.Pest control weed control and they harvest the crawfish for food also.
