It tells the story of Antonio "Tony" Camonte, an Italian immigrant gangster who violently ascends through Chicago's gangland while attempting to shield his sister from the criminal world. Paul Muni stars as Camonte, and the cast also includes Boris Karloff and George Raft. The film is based on Armitage Trail's 1930 novel, which was inspired by Al Capone.
