Some of you people are so cruel. Do you know what it’s like to be an addict and you’re fighting for your life every day do you think they wanna become addicts? It’s just like somebody has cancer and somebody else doesn’t have cancer. It’s a disease and hopefully that will go into remission one day. I don’t say give them money but just pray that one day they will hit their bottom and become clean. People should not judge other people because you know what at any given moment it can happen to somebody in your family.

My son was an addict for years. I tried to get him to go to rehab but he wasn't ready. Then one day out of the blue, he said he needed help. He did the research himself to find a place far from home, so he'd have no contact with his old friends. He stayed for 3 months at an inpatient facility. We were allowed to visit him every other Saturday. So we made the 4hr trip to see him and also took his dog. This was 2016 and he is still clean. He got married, has a beautiful wife and son. They not only provided a place for him to detox, but many hours of therapy. It may not work for everyone, but it did for my son. And I am forever grateful for it. He is a totally different person.

Look not to sound heartless BUT using drugs IS A choice , they choose to use drugs AND they choose to NOT quit . They don't see what drugs do to them , they just love the high, and i can tell you , no matter what drug they choose whether it's dope or alcohol, they just love the high , where they don't have to feel anything or be responsible for anything. They chase that high at any cost . I've watched loved ones die from both , and now see my grandson losing his life from drugs , he almost died earlier this year , from liver failure due to drinking , got sober from that scare but months later he's back to drunk every day , I know , he calls me st 2 - 3am drunk , crying and I spend hours listening to him and trying to talk to him , till he passes out and I'm left listening to him breath to know he's still alive, before I hang up

Calling it a disease is a cop-out for them. It is nothing but an excuse to continue. They chose to do drugs. It was a choice, not something that just happened to them. Just like I made the choice to smoke cigarettes for 36 years. I tried to quit more than 10 times but the cravings and my desire for them was overwhelming and I gave in and continued to smoke. My choice! It was not something that just happened to me. I did it to myself! Then last December, I was diagnosed with emphysema. My last cigarette was December 31st, 2024. I have not had one since. I quit cold turkey! The thought of my husband, kids and grandchildren having to watch me die by suffocation was enough to give me the willpower to finally stop. I also was developing a drinking problem in my late 30's-early 40's. I quit that too.

People want to feel sorry for addicts but when they try a drug as an adult after watching what it does to others, I'm sorry but they deserve what they get!!!! I do not believe that narcan should be used on someone that will literally overdose weekly, they would be better off dead and their families probably would have less pain from watching them slowly kill themselves

How many of you "holier than thou hypocrites" HAVE to have that coffee (or other caffinated drink of choice) each morning? THAT is an addiction...it is a mood altering substance used to stimulate. I would bet most would never give that daily jolt up. Or is it that one sin is lesser than another because it more socially accepted? The Higher Power is the one and only judge so stop doing His job and show some compassion instead of ignorance.

I see a lot of ignorance and closed minded comments. I hope you people never experience what real addiction does to someone. It's not always a choice some people have accidents or medical conditions that dr prescribed pain meds for and some people had family or someone in their life that literally forced alcohol and drugs on them as kids. It's not something they chose. So keep your judgement and ignorant opinions to yourself. Be grateful you are not in their shoes bc you probably wouldn't last day with the struggles they with daily

Yes using a drug is a choice…the first couple times. Being an addict is not a choice. If a diabetic was in DKA, should they avoid taking insulin? Addiction is a disease. Withdrawals are the symptoms, and using is the medicine. Bad choices may lead to addiction, but once in it, it’s one’s personal hell and not a choice anymore. It’s out of your control at the point. Show some sympathy at the very least, since you obviously lack empathy. And those commenting “I know this bc my daughter’s an addict…” need to not speak when you don’t know personally and pass judgement on your own flesh and blood for a little attention on Reddit.

My addiction is in recovery. I was an attic for over 35 years. It’s a horrible way to live. I lost many things went to prison several times almost died many times thank God for his mercy and grace and love and I pray for all those addicts out there still suffering that one day they will find the Lord and get clean.

You said a brain dead president. I’m assuming that you’re talking about Biden. I think that’s the only time in history that we have ever had a walk-in corpse as the president of United States. Biden’s gone, Trump won. Get over it.

The first time you party with your friends you're just parting with your friends you're not anticipating you're going to become addicted and steal and sell your soul for the next fix. People choose to commit crime with the understanding that they might get caught but everything in their stupid ass tells them no not them so first time parting is the same thing. It becomes a choice when an addict has truly lived recovery ( feels the hope and another way is possible) after putting down the drug they now make a choice. the drug convinces you that this is the only way you're not going to get clean because you try over and over and there's no success. Once you're clean you're in the right State of mind you now responsible for that choice because you no there's a better way.

it's not an excuse it's literally a diagnosis in a medical journal. an addict doesn't need a reason to use. When an addict is actively using they don't care enough to provide you with an excuse they just go get high. As rude as that sounds it's honest and truthful.

I would've invited her in gave her a hot shower, new clothes, and something to eat. then I would've asked how good she is at keeping secrets. clapped them cheeks. video taped it and uploaded it to faces of meth. 😂

this is trauma they don't remember but their brain does. so they numb themselves with drugs. it's hard to go back in their childhood. only with a really good doctor. unfortunately, the US don't have good health care for Manny, many of us.

I tried all types of drugs, from shrooms, acid, crack, coke, etc....but the one drug that grab me by my soul was meth & it was an ugly ride. my addiction lasted over 25yrs until one day (without help) I look at myself and realized I had enough & stopped "cold turkey". im 49 now & still fighting the repercussions of my addiction. I stay far away from it and everyone & anybody that has anything to do with it
