this is NOT true! Christ told the thieve on the cross, “Today you will be with me in Paradise!”. Christ did not say, Today you will go to sleep!

The " sleep" from what I understand refers to the soul. The spirit goes back to God after death. The soul & spirit are different. Being absent in the body is to be present with the Lord. The spirit is your relationship with God, your spiritual being. The soul is the part of you that makes you YOU. ( thoughts, emotions, personality etc) Your spirit doesn't sleep, the soul & body does.

Who is misleading humans, which is not the Bible truth? The Bible clearly informs from the beginning of the first human couple, who were misled by the serpent identified as the original serpent, who is called Satan the Devil at Revelation 12:9. Adam was a living soul, and when he died, he was a dead soul. That is why Ezekiel 18:4, 20 clearly informs that the soul who sins is the one who will die. All Adam's offspring born with inherited sin and death from Adam (Romans 5:12). Jesus came to earth for ransom sacrifice his perfect human life for Adam's sin to save us not only eternal lives on earth but also earthly paradise that Adam lost.
