flight attendant here, all they're saying is that if (for some unspecified reason) they cannot take off in the next 22 mins they will "time out" and wont be able to fly that plane (Pilots, just like truck drivers, can only drive/fly for a certain amount of hours a dat and they were reaching their time limit). if that happened the airline would have to call another Pilot and First Officer and could take up to 2 hours for them to arrive (that's how long they give us to be on the gate). and the flight would have gotten delayed.. also there's way worse news to hear than that..

I was to board a flight from NC to NJ on a Friday @ 4:00pm I get to the terminal on time I look and my flight is canceled so I get to the ticket counter they give me a meal voucher and they put me up in a hotel in the middle of the nowhere I ask for the shuttle to take me back to the airport I get there the lady from the night before looked at me & said your still here said yes my flight was delayed again on Saturday morning heard these teens complaining about the flight being delayed said to them I’ve been trying since 4 yesterday afternoon to get home even tried seeing if a bus was in the cards nope all booked so I finally got to leave at 1 pm finally got to my apartment at 5pm on Saturday afternoon this was all because of a fog that had the East Coast in a stand still It was the weirdest thing I was pissed off and was watching a tv show about airplanes and they had a crash at an airport where the fog was so thick that a big plane was on top of the small plane I said ok God I get it

I was in Maui last October and my flight home was delayed 2 times southwest put me up in a room right on the beach , food vouchers , and shuttle round trip. I’ve never been happier having my flight delayed. Extra 3 days in Maui

I had this in Ireland. They sat on the tarmac for 2 hours- said they timed out and we’d fly out 24 hours later. Got another free night in Dublin and free dinner

Here is what I have always told anyone complaining about delays and cancellations when traveling...If you want to control every aspect of your travel then WALK, BIKE, DRIVE, OR FLY YOURSELF. Otherwise understand and resolve yourself to the reality that you are not in control and decisions will be made without your input. Delays and cancellations can and do happen for a variety of reasons... usually for the safety of everyone...and be grateful those you gave control to are taking the precautions to make sure your travel is safe. Personally I would rather get somewhere late AND SAFE then not get there at all and have my family have to identify my remains.

Alaska puts you up in a hotel and provides a shuttle if a flight is canceled. It happened to me 3 days ago in Seattle, Washington.
yep, happened to me in Washington DC, tornado came thru and we sheltered in place, all planes had taken off. our plane returned and we had 10 min to get checked Into the plane and be airborne. We were told to grab our luggage and hold it, don't stow it, put seatbelts on and we would be on our way. after we got Into the air every other row would be able to get up and stow luggage. airline crew and we wanted to get home that night so we hustled.
