The great sun that G-d put in the Heavens (space) , yes it is to create daylight on earth and nowhere else. to put it simple, the Heavens is so immense that the sunlight gets absorbed by the darkness, think of walking into a completely dark Walmart with the most powerful flashlight, it will only shine wherever your are pointing it to and not the whole place.

It isn't dark in space. What you see is light reflecting off objects that light "hits". There is nothing to see until light from the sun strikes an object.

God created Earth he put us in a firmament the sunand the moon are local phenomenon we have never been to outer space we can't leave the firmament remember early on and SpaceX was sending Rockets up Elon Musk got up on a Podium and said I'd like to know how NASA got through the firmament because he can't seem to get any of his Rockets past it
