It is apparent that they went up cutting off the limbs, dead or living, off the tree before bringing it down. I'm not sure but I think it is against the law to cutting down a tree such as that, so it must be dead

notice the beds they made and spaced out along the road. keeps the tree from shattering. the park will have it milled and they make all the bridges and benches and signs and such with the wood
Many of those giants are 2000 years old and there are a few like the general Sherman and the Muir that are 3000 years old.
