Most people don't realize that the Republican Party was founded in the 1850s in Ripon, Wisconsin as the Anti Slavery Party. And yes, slavery was an acceptable practice as far back as 1619, in the colonies, when English slave owners shipped the first group to the America's. They were 200 white children from Ireland.

I'm a Democrat and a Yankee. I don't think it's ok to white wash our history regardless of what it is. George Washington was our first president and he led American soldiers to win independence from England in the American revolution. Owning slaves is disgusting but we have the founders to thank for our freedom and they wrote the constitution that entitles us all. It's our history.

These people that had all these historical statues removed, were attempting to remove history, yes they may have done things we NOW don't agree with BUT tearing them down was not the thing to do, in my opinion, those people done things that helped put this country where it is now, this country grew from those times, the children could have also been taught that! Nobody is perfect. The times were completely different and that the country grew and learned from history to make the present and future better. History made this country the Greatest Country in the world, good bad indifferent....we need to teach the future so history doesn't repeat itself.
