😲been in florida all my life and never heard of palm or swamp cabbage and surely didn't know you could eat parts of a palm tree, those trees mainly have bats or mice living in the dried out part of the trunk

I want to thank the person who posted this video for giving us such a great description of what’s happening here. People who post these kinds of things should do the rest of us a favor, and just quit posting. Sheesh!

someone mentioned they thought it was a pineapple, pineapples do NOT grow on trees. pineapples grow in the ground. cut the top of a pineapple off and bury the skirt or the part you cut into the ground, leaving the branches above ground and it will grow a new pineapple, I know I grow them in my back yard. I started with one, after that I just kept it up. they usually stay kinda small but I don't feed or put pesticides on them and they are so good.

will it die now without it’s heart? I’m a plant lover and I believe that plants can feel pain. That’s why when a plant is looking droopy or sad, if you talk to it, it gets better! Not a day goes by without me telling all of them how beautiful they are 🌸💕

that's not a cabbage palm, they grow very tall and are the state palm ,,the edible part is the core of the new sprouts at the top it's good raw or cooked slow in a cast iron pot with smoked ham hocks and onions,,with fresh fried mullet just caught out of the Gulf of America

I’m 73, and I just learned my “new thing every day” thing! So what are those palms that only have one trunk and a few leaves at the top?

Palm trees also have berries that look like abundle of grapes and smell like peaches. when I lived there, I made palm tree jelly. They are orange when ripe. The pits can be used to make beaded jewlery

Heart or palm salad was one of my mother's favorite dishes ,was served in nicer seafood Places when I was young. The draw back is that it is quite a bit of work to get to the heart & clean it . It also kills the tree. However there was never a shortage of cabbage palms if you were willing to put in the time and work :) 6 generations of family born & raised in Florida and love my home state.🥰

my son has a palm in his yard, but had some fruit on it that looked like cherries. They are edible and he said they tasted good.
