Dude tried to downshift and missed the gear,then he panicked, thats big trouble in an emergency, an experienced driver knthat if you miss the gear, you immediately go up a gear and then come back thru the downshift gears, but, if you are a rookie and you miss the upshift gear, or the downshift gear...again, you are in real trouble, he did what he needed to to stop, he was lucky he was able to stop,but now he burned his brakes and has to change them, along with his shorts, that's why as a truck driver you have to always constantly be looking way further for hazards than he was,you should be constantly looking a half mile ahead at that speed, instead of an 8th of a mile ahead like he was, dumb mistake, he's not driving a car.

first rule in a semi truck always leave yourself enough room to stop safely, second rule dont worry about pissing other drivers off if your slow or what they think, your in charge of that giant truck, thats not to say I havent done this before, ive smoked my brakes because a soccer mom pulled in front of me in Houston and slammed on her brakes, most people and especially women don't understand it takes a football field to stop the things, I still think about how close I was to killing her and all the car seats in her car at the time when she did that
