I just learned what Manatees are. For the comment about folks should know what they are...NO!! If one doesn't know what something is and they are asking why not just tell them instead of all of the smart and rude comments. When you were young teachers always said if you don't know then ask. It's ignorant that nowadays you can't ask a simple question!!

Manatees absolutely love drinking fresh water. I live on the east coast of Florida on what is known as the Indian River Lagoon runs parallel to the Alantic ocean and has brackish water (mix of salt and fresh water) and Manatees live in these bodies of water so I will run my garden hose off the side of my dock and let fresh water trickle out and these Manatees can sense fresh water from 100s of yards out they come up with a open mouth and literally drink what I assume is an easy 10 15 gallons of fresh water in a single gulp it's like filling a car with gas everytime I watch these beautiful creatures. Manatees AKA Sea Cows are Highly Highly Highly Protected Ted by tje Goverment and are Absolutely Harmless to Humans. They eat sea grass.

manatees need fresh water to help breaking down the salt in there body. they love fresh water drains from boats and they all seem to know boats equal fresh water. So if you been ancored for a while look for manatees before starting your boat prop.
