I live in a Sears house called The Whitehall.

Never heard of a kit you could put together and have a nice little home that stood the test of time.. sears must have believed in quality back in the day…

Made in America and made to last!! That's what we need again!!

Dad paid $20,000 for his Sears Craftsman House and $5000 for the land back in 1955 and it took a long 2 years working every weekend for 2 years to complete it. It is currently worth $600,000 as it sits on a lake in Minnesota.

All my clothes came from the sears catalog growing up. Im a 60s baby

That's how people afforded what we had. We didn't "hire out" every chore or job. Kids were free labor. As a "family" we built up what we could get. Eating out was rare, kids came home from school & did their expected chores....with or without a parent being there. TWO parent families were normal, people had homemade coffee with their neighbors, not some expensive drive thru brew. We offered free labor to help our neighbors..because we knew they would do the same. Different lifestyles altogether. 🤔🤷♀️

I worked on a kit house from Sears in the 80s. In the attic, every rafter was stamped with the Sears logo and a number for the sequence in which the rafters were to be installed. I can only assume the walls and the floors were marked similarly. I thought it was very cool.

My mother in 1956 or 57 ordered 100 baby chicken from Sears and the mailman delivered them in a big box..we did not lose one!..I was 7 or 8!

Looks amazing! It’s bad when a kit house has lasted longer than some of these modern homes.

my grandparents got one with blue chip stamps it took them 2yrs to fill 100 booklets but they did it

I ordered something from the back of a magazine once... I'm still trying to figure out how these glasses can help me see through women's clothing

Sears, JC Penny and Montgomery Wards catalogs were all awesome!!!

I want one

Well that is when things were made to last. These days companies engineer their products to fail. That way they can sell you another and another and another. There is no pride in manufacturing anymore. Look at the cars coming off the line today.

Growing up I lived across the street from an adorable house set back in the woods. The front had a gable arch. At night when they turned on the porch light, it looked like gold shining marble. The house looked right out of a magazine! My dad said it was a Sears kit. In my 20’s it was sold & people were remodeling it & asked if there was anything I wanted from it. The golden porch light. I’m 80 & it’s been my porch light wherever I’ve lived.

Our little town had several Sears or Montgomery Ward kit houses. Still sturdy and beautiful

they don't make 'em like they used to, that's for sure. Sears craftsmanship was unparalleled back in the day

I was born in 1956–my best clothes were made by my Aunt Shirley on my Dad’s side She was perfect—had 4 boys and she was the best cook ever and could see a picture of clothes and duplicate without a pattern ❤️ I loved her very much 🙏🏼❤️

My grandfather took all of this money out of the bank bought a Sears home out of the catalog. He built it and married my Grandmother on the day of the Crash, the Great Depression. Thank God he bought the house he would have lost every penny he had saved. Beautiful house. It would cost a fortune to build the same house

its gorgeous! every single one of those s&r kit houses that I've seen have stood the test of time, just like yours! that's so phenomenal. wish they still sold them!🥰

My neighbor in Columbia and an Uncle both bought one and they still stand sturdy and strong today! If I'm not mistaken they were around $5,000 to $6,000!!!

I remember them good old day when you could order everything from Sears. the WISH BOOK that was mail delivered every Thanksgiving 🥰

That was back when people had pride in a job well done. A Kenmore fridge would last 20-30 years. The manufacturers got greedy. Bet these home still stand when a house from 2000 or newer falls down.

amazon sells house kits

Wish I could find something like that today. One of our neighbors bought one from Sears a long time ago, and it's still a nice-looking house.

What a treasure full of memories‼️

Sears knew what they were doing !

That's from back when the word quality had meaning! Craftsman style!!!

Sears sold house kits for over a century, almost a million of them.

if I remember right Sears made porcelain houses that reminds you of white castle stores..... we had one in pataskala in the early nineties on a 40 acre farm and that little house was sweet as could be unfortunately a rich guy about the place and tore the house down

My great grandmother ordered 3, 2 used as houses and one as a garage. The cost for all 3 was less than 7k! They were 2 bedroom one bath homes with pecan wood!

Back when things were made with quality materials and workmanship.

Sears and Roebuck's were the jam of their day. I still have my grandma's S&R dresser!!! 💕

My husband's family was a Sears home. delivered it in peices. It had an upstairs also. Solid home👍

I wished they still had sears

THAT IS SO AWESOME..... I MISS SEARS!!!!🌸

The house I'm leaving in is a Sears house built in 1953

Ohhhhh nice 💕 Sears should come back 👍🏼

I miss the Sears catalog 💔

things use to be done right

S&H green stamps had a house on Nantucket Island !! I loved riding by there when I was a child !!

Where can you find something along the same line now-a-days? Anybody?

Yeah back when retailers were not $ grabbers, made things that would survive several decades.

Would love to know how much the kit cost.

My son lives in a Sears house in Tempe Az. mid 60's.

Sears Catalog was good for more than the Outhouse.

In 1960 Sears was your GoTo store. They had everything. I have a picture with my dad going in between Santa Clauses legs to get n the escalator to go see Santa on the second floor. I was probably 5 yrs old. Sears was on N Shepherd in Houston Tx

Good ol days.

I had a Sears home and the add came with the house It was called the “Rodessa

I wish they still had kits like this

That’s beautiful!👍🏼

Wow… beautiful homes!!❤️

I LOVE it!!!!

Yep that was a good time to live… simple & better

When things were made to last.

What a beautiful home! And thank you for sharing the memories of things that came from catalogs back in the day. I never had the luxury of ordering from them, but my children did. Every Thanksgiving after dinner we would gather in the family room and around the fireplace everyone would pass the catalogs (I specifically remember JCPenney) and they would circle in their assigned color what they wanted for Christmas. So at the end of the evening everyone's wish list was done for Grandma. Wonderful memories that I had forgotten, until reading your post, so thank you.

Obviously well-cared for. 💕

They were the best!!

Do you know how much he paid for that particular plan? I love the plan. Smart grandpa!🥰

Wow that's in amazing shape...What did it cost him do you know?? SEARS was a great Store im so sorry not to see them anymore!
