you don't want the horse stepping on the tail that's why he cuts it everyday every so often and the maine you don't want him to get too hot and you don't want that to grow down into their eyes also you don't want the man to get too long for the same reason you don't want the tail to also with the name it helps if you cut it for the halter and the bridal to fit easier

this is just bs. a horse needs it's mane and tail to swat flies. in shows they will braid and knot the mane to allow for showing the arch of the neck and let it back. Doing this would leave a horse subject to cruel sunburn on their necks as well as the inability to shoo the flies off.

A long mane can interfere with the rider's reins, especially in disciplines like polo, show jumping, and eventing. It can also get tangled in mallets or other equipment. Shaved manes are common in polo to prevent interference with the game. Also, in some disciplines, specific mane styles are required or preferred.
