My dog will bark when the door bell rings but when he gets to the door and smells whoever is outside he will stop if it’s someone he knows and will put more bass in his barks if it’s a stranger.

Dogs, among other animals alike aren't stupid. They can smell, see, and hear keenly. The dog already knew who it was. She should try and use a stranger next time. & then don't keep crying wolf to your dog. Because even if it's a stranger he will be trained by you to think that this is common behavior every once in a while, and still won't react even if they're not eating. Train your dog properly. If you want your dog to react, don't let him interact with no one but you and those in house. It's a natural reaction. Don't ruin it by playing. 👍
