it's done to let the filler operator that the run is about to stop so operator know to slow down the filler so as to not lose product or cans normally they get picked out in a slow jog but sometimes they get through. empty cans come on really tall pallets without the lids and they ate filled and lid put on them at a very high rate of speed.
