im trying to firgure this out because 40 years after this both partys flip agendas basically republicans were now democrats and democrats were republicans during the Civil War but this doesn't paint a fair picture because during the Civil War the parties were almost 50 / 50. almost half of each party favored slavery and was against it. at this time during the 3 years before the war many people changed side and then you have union and confederacy. after the Civil War the parties realigned themselves to embark on a new course on the same old agendas.
