Me and my siblings were disciplined with a belt , switches and hands. Never hurt us and we grew up respectful. Also learned if we wanted something then we had to work for it. Both my parents are gone now and I miss them so much. Spare the rod and spoil the child. Look at how are children are today. No respect for anyone and just takes what they want. Nope. In my household when I was younger it was old school. But you know what none of us are criminals? So sometimes I think you need to correct a child. I'm not saying beat him up. The most precious thing I child has is time. Time out worked wonders in our house. I was hit by my parents. It didn't stop my rebellious side. It did teach me how to hate them for humiliating me. All 4 of our kids were nevers struck. We never had problems with discipline. They grew up with respect and love and care. All 4 College Graduates, all Professional, all happy. Me, I finished a Military career, a career in Nursing, and have earned a PhD in 17th Century English Literature, in SPITE of my Father telling me I'd amount to nothing. He died in prison. Strike a child and all your doing is teaching them it's OK for big people to hit little people. But, hey, you want to raise kids with self-esteem issues, to be bullies, go ahead. They're your kids.
