cheap ammo? what? old ammo and cooking your rounds, maybe! you need to know your caliber, grains, and density penetration of solids! Can't shoot a bear with .22 unless you want to piss it off, .357 will kill it! Same goes for a double layered propane tank, a 9mm isn't going to have full penetration vs a 30-06 full metal jacket. depending on what ammo you want: some rounds scatter while others butterfly or blow a 2 inch hole through and through! I prefer my .45acp or desert eagle, that propane tank would be a hot double penetration.
