that's not a rock honey that is pink Himalayan salt you would heat that up and cook on it and it seasons your steaks or your meats while it Cooks on on the salt block so don't call it a stone please call it for what it is a salt block

by the way the graying is because of the salt on the meat it has a chemical reaction when heated up anybody that has worked with chefs learn this pretty early when working with heated salt blocks and yes you did it right but a lot of times normally after you would take it off the salt block you would put it in a pan that is very hot to put a sear on the meat hope this helps

maybe it needs to be seared? kinda looks like a steak after a sous vide. I love a sous vide filet but it needs a good pan or grill sear after.
