keep it short and simple:tariffs won't work example if you're going to the store to buy a TV made in China the tariffs says that company must pay 10,000 for that batch of TVs that company will raise the cost of those TV's and the store in turn raises the price of those TV's and you as a consumer will have a choice buy the TV or go without. Essentially the consumer pays the bill.

Tariffs are paid by consumers, causing consumer confidence to plummet and that causes the economy to crash and shrink. It's a short term loss without knowing long term payoff. Again, each economist will tell you that this has failed to work in the past and there is no infrastructure now to make up the problem. A 50k car goes to a 62,500. The consumer "may" have a us product alternative. it doesn't, so new product will stagnate.
