this is precisely why the rules for security officers state the following: 1. You must see the person come into the store without the product 2. you must see the person pick up the product. 3. You must see the person conceal the product 4. You must see the person pass the point of sale with the product and 5. You must see them walk out the door with the product. A security officer must see all 5 in order for theft to be determined. You cannot unlawfully detain people under "suspicion" of theft. You are not a police officer, and was not granted lawful authority to detain based on reasonable suspicion. This is exactly how you lose your state guard card and get a civil lawsuit
