if this happened to us we would have to stop before the water call dispatch and if given permission proceed at walking speed until rear of train clears the water and report back to dispatch

only a fool engineer would go through flooded tracks that fast. Track washouts are not always visable.

I wrecked a car once like this. Came around the corner in a huge storm, and all I could see was railroad tracks. I drove towards a stop sign hoping it was the road. It wS actually a ditch. We did a dukes of Hazzard jump and ended up high centered on railroad tracks. Guys tried to pull it off tracks, but could not. I had to walk track to get out of car, so cops knew I was not drunk. The car was a red rally sport, a rental, and it was totaled from dragging it on tracks.
