well you were definitely on the right track but rather than a caterpillar it is a moth I grew up with these things in the woods when I was very young and I remember them very well. Unfortunately for your incident with Google I was able to find rather than caterpillars I looked up moths and this is definitely a bag worm moth. 🙂🦋🐝
