Hamas puts civilians in harm’s way: While Israel goes to great lengths to avoid harming civilians as it targets Hamas’s weapons and operations centers in Gaza, Hamas typically proceeds to place Palestinian civilians directly in the path of the IDF’s targets. It has repeatedly called on Palestinian civilians to ignore Israel’s warnings about impending strikes and reportedly forced civilians to remain in the vicinity of military objectives, using them, like its hostages from Israel, as human shields. Hamas’ actions are not only aimed at protecting its leaders, weapons, and property but also at vying for leverage in the public opinion war by inflating the number of civilian casualties.
Release the hostages, Hamas lay down your arms, and this conflict will be over.
Why has Israel waited this long and not done anything ?
According to reports from November 2023, civilians in Gaza joined Hamas militants and fighters from Palestinian Islamic Jihad after Hamas breached the security barrier around Gaza on October 7th, 2023. International humanitarian law considers individuals as civilians if they are not members of armed forces and do not take a direct part in hostilities. However, if civilians engage in hostilities, they lose their protection from attack.
As of July 2025, Hamas control over the territory has reportedly largely collapsed, with 80% of the Gaza Strip outside its control, and with criminal gangs and armed groups filling the void.
