We were told about the gentrification coming to DC in the mid 80s.
I was stationed at Anacostia 2 months on medical hold in 1981.. I ventured out 2 times.robbed at gunpoint 2 times..when I got stationed to Ft Myer.i literally kissed the ground

I used to leave there and my mom used to work at the cleaners. They buildings to the left was a minni mall. That's where my mom worked. This was back in the 80's

Use to live on Staton Rd, SE, DC in the mid 80's when all the killing was going on. 3 of my cousins killed within a 6 month period, 2 were brothers. Left DC in 92 when I had my son. live in NJ now were I was born and raised.
