I have been in financial straits. But if you are a govmt. employee, or you depend on SNAP, it would be wise to squirrel away even a couple of dollars whenever you can so that when September comes around you're prepared. Have you not learned by now that we are going to go through this crap EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR? Be prepared for it. If I knew that there was a possibility every single year that I wasn't going to get my paycheck on time, I'd be ready. I know ... it can be hard. But this is an annual occurrence. I began receiving my Social Security last year. I knew that it was going to be an increase over the meager revenue I was getting as a freelancer--that my SNAP was going to be severely cut. In fact, I got a 90% cut. But I expected--and planned--for it. I know that critical-thinking skills are very rare in 2025. But that's (mostly) your own fault. Get your face out of your phone and try thinking in advance so that you don't end up living in your car.

They kicked me off foodstamps and took away my subsidized housing as soon as i got a job and i had 5 children with childcare …that was 35 years ago. Never had section 8 .. I’m a home owner now and my children are now grown! We made it!!! Yes! It was hard fuckin work. But i had no choice. They took everything away from me.
