A Phoenix haboob is usually tied to a collapsing thunderstorm. Rain cools the air, the air drops like a spilled bucket, and when it hits the ground it explodes outward. That outflow front bulldozes loose desert dust into a wall. You get a dramatic, movie poster dust wall, visibility drops to zero fast, winds spike hard, and then it’s mostly over in 30 to 90 minutes. It’s abrupt, loud, chaotic, and localized. Afterward, the sky often clears and you move on with your day, assuming you didn’t wreck your car or trash your lungs. Haboobs are cool to watch and it's really nice that they don't last long or cause the destruction like the shamal season in the middle east...
