The term "skid row" actually originated in Seattle. It used to be a logging town, and they'd push the logs down 1st Avenue near the waterfront on wooden "skids" in order to put them on barges. Then they put the homeless mission there, and it became synonymous with homelessness because they'd hang around down there all day long.

A woman was run over by a car during weekend protests in Los Angeles after she was seen blocking the vehicle; the driver eventually sped forward, striking her.
