cracked wood. Eventually that crack will travel up the wood=failure.

there are easier, less time-consuming ways to do that without cracking the wood like that I mean unless you are gonna seal up the cracks and coat it with something to seal it all tight and weather proof it since it is wood and I assume it will be a outside chair!
