Thank you for sharing part of the history of your people. I cannot begin to imagine the constant horror they witnessed and the constant terror they felt. When I learned about slaves in grade school I cried.
It was much worse than what the narrator described. Pregnant women were brutally hanged and their unborn child cut out of them and stomped to death when it fell to the ground. Women were rapped anytime the enslavers felt like it,taken right from their husbands and families and there was nothing they could do to help. Hangings were entertainment, whites would pick a black person to hang and stand around and watch and laugh; white children as well. That’s where the word “picnic” came from, I’m sure you know what the “nic” meant. Even more brutal was that the white slavers sexually assaulted the male slaves in front of others to break their manhood, it was called “buck breaking”. Any other horror or form of human torture that you can imagine happened. Slaves were mutilated while still alive and set on fire. I grew up in Alabama and was told the stories by my great grandparents who witnessed these things. We were too poor to own slaves but my ancestors worked on the plantations.

I meant was from an individual that was extremely disrespectful while being accustomed to voicing everyday racism. this is an ancient history this is living history. because the atrocities would people of African descent in America did not stop at the end of slavery, it continues to this day. it continues with the attitudes like the first commenter. he is only upset because he can't as boldly as his ancestors due to us what his ancestors did to ours. because what they were able to do has only been highlighted since the 1960s. they like to pretend,bury and deny the atrocities that they commit while continuing to do the same atrocities. the only part of history in America that's supposed to be forgotten, it's a dehumanization of Black people. hell the Holocaust didn't even happen in America but we're supposed to have respect and reverence for that but forget what actually happened on this soil. Never.
As long as we educate our children they can not earse our history! Shame on them.

Thank u for sharing part of your history. I always used to ask when I was a child what is the history of others like black people, Mexicans who held the land on which I grew up on before the whites came, and the native Americans who were here 1st and the women who were always there with all the men who were part of the history of everyone. I was told there is no history of anyone else. How sad is that?! We all have history! Not just christian white men!

And now the horror happened. as massive Native children were murdered and buried in mass graves Of course, my grandma survived (or I wouldn't be able to write this) but at a great price. I was learning my language with my grpa (he was a code talker. stationed in Germany during WWII). one day I asked my grma how to say a word, and she broke down in tears. the 'Caucasians' beat the language out of her.
