I have personally done this with shoestrings! I have locked my keys in multiple vehicles in my life and I've had to figure out a way into all of them. The trickiest part for me was remembering how to make a slip knot. lol And keeping the pressure off the knot before getting it around the lock.
I walked straight back into Walmart and bought a shoestring and thats why they dont make this lock any more
