This is apparently a Volkswagon Golf Mk4 or Mk5 or Jetta Mk5. They are replacing the OEM headlight control switch with an aftermarket one that allows auto headlight on/off when it gets dark. The piece put on the dash is the light sensor.

I don't know exactly what this person is hooking up but I do know this person broke the number one rule and that's not to wear black socks with white shoes or vice versa just saying I hope that helped everyone now I'm going to continue on my day

i will agree,I also had a Toyota,it ran FOREVER,even with the floor badly rusted!
Looks like a typical aftermarket replacement sensor for auto headlights... When these sensors go out, you have to remove half the dash and this job is around 4.5 hours flat rate warranty, if billed out as customer pay, 5 hours... these aftermarket kits allow you to solder a lead directly to the back of the switch and you ground the other lead... It basically allows you to complete a horrible mind numbing 5 hr job in less than 15 minutes...🤔 Also, the tech makes out big time getting paid for hours of pay for basically doing nothing...👍

it's called a photo eye, keeps you from getting pulled over for not turning on your headlights when the sun goes down

Shit don’t have daytime running lights how old is that car looks pretty new. The lights are automatically go on when it’s dusk.
