we used to go in one down in the creek not far from Bankroft Junior High School in San Leandro. I was 10 years old then. The kids called in the "V Tunnel." You'd walk in and then after walking for a while it would get smaller and smaller. you had to duck to get through it. Then it opened up into this big giant area the kids called the "V-Room." there was a manhole above the v-room. Come to find out we were not exploring a cool tunnel with a mysterious v shaped room after all, we were playing in the sewer. Fortunately we were not down there at a time that they cracked open the waterway or damn or whatever they'd open to let the water run through there when they did. I remember hearing of kids drowning down there like that in Hayward. Even ran from police and fireman down there once. Neither cops nor fireman made the slightest attemp to follow me and my buddy Phillip into the V-Tunnel. and that day I had my first meeting with a Bat. Thanks for sharing. Sparked a memory
