Went thru this with my sister’s passing! Her husband had to send a copy of her death certificate to each entity her name was on
and I would max out every last card because she is in a place where credit is not accepted
If his name is not on the credit card, no further payment is due.
it happened to me when my husband passed. I had to get his death certificate to prove that he was deceased.
No joke...I feel for him. Had a similar situation with absolute morons at Wells Fargo.

I ran into this after my mom passed. I eventually gave them the phone number and address with plot number to the cemetery. Most would just say thank you and that would be it. Some would call back saying something about not being funny giving them the address of a cemetery. I told them yeah it wasn’t funny to me either of her dying.
I had a bank (bb&t) put a hold on my name when I tried to open an account somewhere else because they said I owed them money for an overdrawn account. I told them thats impossible because I've never had an account there. after being transfered sever times and being on the phone for about 2 hrs they agreed that I never had an account there...... but they refused to remove the hold until they could "investigate" it took 4 months to get them to remove it before I coukd open a bank account anywhere else and I was told by a few attorneys that there was little i could do about it without thousands of dollars up front with no guarantee I'd win. our banking system needs to be wiped out and rebuilt. we've given them far too much power.
Death certificate will handle this! However, it takes weeks! 🙄🙄

same goes with cell phones. I had an account at tmobile. both phones paid for under just my name and I gave my gf at the time a phone. we broke up a year later and she took the phone so I called to cancel the line. they wouldnt let me because I didnt have the phone in my possession....so I asked so im stuck with tmobile for life bc my ex took my phone thats completely paid for? she said no I can cancel my account at anytime so thats what I did. pretty sure she was new and not qualified for customer service.

The same thing happened to me when my father died. The woman at the credit card company insisted on talking to my dead father. I repeatedly told them he was dead. Finally they got it and I handed up the phone.
this man should run that cc up as high as he can and when they call well she must have wanted some things to take with her.
This totally messed up. If the bank wanted proof they should have asked for a copy of the death certificate. But don’t treat someone like this who has just lost a loved one. I know people lie about things like this but since the bank person didn’t know for sure could have handled it with some compassion.
You need an original copy of her death certificate. The bank will honor that. This is from my experience.

I’m going through something like that now. My wife is in hospice care and the utility bills are in her name. She can barely talk due to a stroke and barely hold the phone. It’s the same with her credit cards and other bills!!! Guess what???!!! When she dies they can try to get their money from the grave!!!!

Take the death certificate into the bank and handle it in person or send copies to all credit card companies with certified letter request.
You always have to use the death certificate and your marriage certificate to prove who you are. If you are a trustee you can also show that paperwork with the death certificate. This isn’t new. What is odd is that the lady didn’t understand when he said she was dead but this isn’t shocking. Send them the death cert so they can properly help you. Everyone has to do that.

When someone dies and you are left to take care of things for them, order at least 10 copies of their death certificate. It will be needed everywhere. Some places will take copies but others want originals. Banks, CCDs, utilities, etc.

Bills collectors kept calling my mom for my brother whom had passed away. She got so tired of them calling.. she said go to the Damm cemetery 🪦 and you'll find him there !!! That was funny 🤣
That's why you ask for the mailing address to send the death certificate so the account can be canceled
Bank of America did not release my deceased wife’s bank account to me (even though I had a court document stating her assets were mine now, and all other paperwork). They had me come back to the branch, wait to see the branch manager, have him call the central office, they would give me instructions to do something else, and when it was done it would be resolved in “5 business days”…and then suddenly, NOTHING HAPPENED. This went on for 6 months! Actually, when I first went in there to report her death I found out they had suspended my bank account too! It took me a couple of days to get access to my own money!!! That could have gone very badly had I needed groceries or other needs for myself and my 8 year old son!
