I went through this with my husband died my first husband and they can't tell me how to see him too so you know what I did and went to the bank brought his ashes and put his goddamn ashes on the table and said here you go you can talk to him now Lily put the urn on the guy's desk and said here you go you said you had to see and talk to him well here he is go ahead and talk to him try telling you he's dead I got everything I needed done and then after that that bank manager and vice president never talk to me again and they don't even look at me when I walk in the bank now lol

Yep, that happened to me. I lost my home because of it. My husband passed away from brain cancer. I was eligible to keep my home in what you call, "in bank lew of". I sent them everything including death certificate. After a bunch of back and forth, I was told that they had to speak to my husband and get his authorization for records. I will mention the bank. Wells Fargo. I lost everything.
my husband had court for a traffic thing and he passed 5 days before court. the police officers came to my home with a warrant and thought i was hiding him lol...the kids and I were a mess but after the cops left we laughed so hard. my son said dad still wins mvp of hide n seek lol
I had the same thing happen when I tried to cancel my husband‘s cell phone when he passed away they kept saying they wanted to talk to him and I said well it’s a little hard we had him cremated and they said well then you were gonna have to go to our main office with his death certificate to prove to us that he is gonethese people are just nuts
my daughter passed away and I went to cut her lights out and pay her finally bill. They told me I couldn't turn her light out or pay her bill she has to do it . I told her thank you hope u get that bill paid .
I ran into this after my mom passed. I eventually gave them the phone number and address with plot number to the cemetery. Most would just say thank you and that would be it. Some would call back saying something about not being funny giving them the address of a cemetery. I told them yeah it wasn’t funny to me either of her dying.
But they expect him to pay whatever the balance is on that card

I went through the same thing when my husband died. It was so painful for them to treat you like that. I offered his death certificate but they said they had to talk to him. How awful for stupid people to put people already suffering through something like this!
I had a bank (bb&t) put a hold on my name when I tried to open an account somewhere else because they said I owed them money for an overdrawn account. I told them thats impossible because I've never had an account there. after being transfered sever times and being on the phone for about 2 hrs they agreed that I never had an account there...... but they refused to remove the hold until they could "investigate" it took 4 months to get them to remove it before I coukd open a bank account anywhere else and I was told by a few attorneys that there was little i could do about it without thousands of dollars up front with no guarantee I'd win. our banking system needs to be wiped out and rebuilt. we've given them far too much power.

Same thing when my twin brother passed; I was trying to cancel his satellite service because he had died, the customer rep said he had to talk to my brother. I don’t know how many times I told him my brother was dead, I finally said my brother was unreachable since I didn’t put his cell phone in his casket. 🤨🤔

Simething similar happened when my mother passed away. The phone company kept sending her a bill for five months. I send newspaper notices and death certificates but it did not but stillvdifnt get it. The last time I called them they said they couldnt disconnect the phone without talking to her. So 🥰

My husband of 20+ years and a very happy, loving relationship were it was not on either of our bucket list to die at the ages 60 and 62 he passed away from triple open heart surgery and passed away September 16,2020 I to went to the bank and because I was not on the account would not let me withdraw the remaining amount in his account and I am the one thst deposited the money that was in the account and we had been married over 20 years, my bad I guess I had no idea that I could not decline own ship of the time of his death even with death certification still they refused to give me the money and I just could not understand why so I looked the matter up on line and ask where does the unclamable money go in the bank at the time of the account owner and here is what I was told it is left alone for I believe a year and then the bank supposedly gives to charity as it a tax break for the donation and helps the banks with payment on there tax write off! I tried to cancel my mother's charge card, out of death certificates, they told me I could no cancel it. I said ok I'll leave it open. she said some one could use it. I told her thats OK, you can collect the payment from her. I recieved a letter that they cancelled it.
Sounds familiar, when my wife passed & this stupidity came to the house I gave them the number to the funeral home. When & if that didn’t work I told them Heaven c/o Jesus Christ. No more problem…

When my father passed in 04, he had just bought a new car, maybe 6 months earlier. My mother never had a driver’s license, so after dad passed as the executor of the will decided to return the car to the selling dealer. Three months later, they called and threatened my 92 year old mother. WRONG!!! They then told me that they were going to file suit for $12,500. for the car, that they had. They wanted a good address where they could serve daddy. I gave them the Cemetery address and hung up. Never heard another word.
It's SO MADDENING! You're already dealing with the loss of your spouse and they just make you want to scream! There needs to be changes made.
so proud of the job my wife does. she handles these calls. closing the cards is automatically done by her personally. then she searches every data base her bank has and closes every account she can. then she gathers the information the caller needs to take care of any additional issues.
you do not have to do anything if your name is not on the credit card. it is not your responsibility to pay her debts.
the credit card people called us and said we were responsible for the outstanding balance on our deceased mothers credit cards . we laughed and laughed into the phone until the hung up. They never called back
This actually happened to me with a cell phone company when my husband passed away. Finally, I just got a male acquaintance to state over the phone that he was (my husband’s name…) and the cell phone company finally cancelled his account. I had already sent them a death certificate… not good enough
Bank of America did not release my deceased wife’s bank account to me (even though I had a court document stating her assets were mine now, and all other paperwork). They had me come back to the branch, wait to see the branch manager, have him call the central office, they would give me instructions to do something else, and when it was done it would be resolved in “5 business days”…and then suddenly, NOTHING HAPPENED. This went on for 6 months! Actually, when I first went in there to report her death I found out they had suspended my bank account too! It took me a couple of days to get access to my own money!!! That could have gone very badly had I needed groceries or other needs for myself and my 8 year old son!
Well kinnda seams the bank wants fraud on these cards and when someone runs them uo I gareentee you they will come after him .. Absolute STUPIDY

Finally sent the law firm an email noting the cemetery, Chapel name and crypt # and let him know when he did speak to my husband to tell him I was making pasta for dinner! His secretary printed the email and taped it on the inside of her cabinet in her office. She thought it was hysterical! How stupid people can be!!!!

I was trying to get my mother-in-law’s interest rate lowered on that stay in your home program. It was a nightmare dealing with Wells Fargo and she died before I made any progress. They then proceeded to call my cell phone twice a day for about 18 months asking to speak with her. I had sent her death certificate several times. Stupid, stupid people reading off a clip board.
No joke...I feel for him. Had a similar situation with absolute morons at Wells Fargo.

Even sending a copy of the death certificate sometimes does nothing. I've been trying for several years to cancel a credit card in my mom's name. I sent all the paperwork requested of me, twice, and numerous phone calls. The company still sends credit cards, so I shred them up and mail them back to the company.
Same thing happened to me when my father passed. I tried selling his boat that was in his name and I told them he had passed away. They told me he had to sign the title. So I turned around and signed it.
This exact thing happened to my friend when his wife died. He was trying to find out what she owed so he could pay it. They refused to talk to him. He didn’t even know she had credit cards in only her name. He spoke with his attorney and was told if he is not on the cards and they can’t talk to him, he does not have to pay them off.
if you don't get credit cards cancel and someone else buys or moves into that address they will send out the new credit card and who's ever there will sign up and go out and make a purchase and Max them out that happened to my husband's cousin when his father died someone went out and bought a for $5,000 lawn mower and kept calling his house asking to speak to him which they had to say name and his wife said he's no longer with us he is deceased you want my father-in-law and he's deceased so I don't know what they ended up doing but they did not pay that bill 😉

same happened to me when my mom passed. call local water dept to let them know to cancel acct. when insisted nastily that she needs to talk to my mother to send her a form. after several arguments back and forth I finally gave her new address at the cemetery. Lady stops yelling and says did you just give me a cemetery address. yep. and if she answers let me know. I have questions.
