Where did you get your facts? The pilot flys an angle of attack. At or just prior to touchdown jets go immediately to full thrust. Reciprocating powered propeller A/C do not because instantaneous power is available should they miss or have a hook skip. Jet engines, on the other hand, require a spool up time to reach T/O or Go Around thrust. The angle of attack remains constant while the airspeed may vary to maintain the correct approach AOA!
In case it doesn't catch arresting hook the Pilot can just take off again safely.
If you get a hook skip, you absolutely must regain immediately regain your flying air speed. Otherwise you & your very expensive airplane will be lost!
please don't provide the answer as Democrats will seize upon this and demand the Secretary of Defense to Resign.
I would think the jet would increase its speed so that if it misses the hook it will have enough speed to not go into the drink.
Yup, so the pilot can take off safety if the plane misses the hook 🪝🤔.!!.
For clarification, landing speed upon approach, full power when the wheels touch, cut power when cable is hooked. That way if all cables are missed there is enough speed to take off again and not go into the water
actually, this was only half right. when the jet hits the deck and tries to connect with the arresting cable if it doesn't properly attach (which is called a bolter), it needs to have sufficient speed to become airborne again so it can make another pass and try again. Too many tries could require a recert or recertification.

It is to make sure it can take off again if hook misses
overshoot the runway and go into the water.....unless you know how to operate flying object. those years of training I guess never touched on this subject. weird.
