Newton's law states that an object in motion will stay in motion until another force acts upon. It also an object that is, stationary will stay stationary. Until another force acts upon it. He obviously picked up a bat that was stationary and had been laid on the ground. Once he picked it up and let it go that established the force of motion and direction that the stick was going to float, it is not going to stop until it hits the ground or a wall or another person who changes its direction or causes it to become stationary.

Something doesn't seem possible with what NASA claims.
