Yes. You should have to prove citizenship to register to vote. Everyone that can legally vote in the US has a birth certificate or a naturalization certificate. If you changed your name you should also have the document to prove that. I don’t understand the problem. When I got married and changed my name after 3 years, I took my marriage certificate down to SSA and had it legally changed. I took my marriage certificate, birth certificate, and SSN card over to the DMV, and got a new drivers license and a registered to vote on the same day.
