that's also what they call "common sense" but unfortunately it's not common amongst most 👍

I drove semi over the road for 27 years and I always appreciated it when drivers changed lanes for me !

Yes, the car driver was courteous and used common sense, but remember it is not required by law.

the car or truck entering the highway has a yield sign that means slow down or stop until you can enter the road safely. so the car did not have to move over per the letter of the law.

You can see this every day on the roads around here (NE TN). True, there are a few boneheads who either don't know it's the law, or they don't care!

you know you stop and think about it from a truck driver's perspective. we don't even want to be with you four wheelers especially in cities or bigger cities. but yet you restick restrict us to the right two lanes so we got to fight every one of you. why don't you let the trucks are in the outside too Lange and you run the right lanes through traffic stays left sure would make City travel a lot easier people LOL maybe kind of sort of

rules of the road keep right except to pass move over after passing, slower traffic keep to the right. if you are being passed on the right on the hiway you are in the wrong lane.

Drivers today will let you run out of merge lane before they let you in. Taking drivers training out of schools was a huge mistake. We had 1 hour everyday for 3 months learning from a book. And once a week we drove on a training course. Now parents teach their kids how to drive or pay for an instructor. What if the parents are bad drivers? Oh well I guess.

Most do but it's not required to move over. Entering traffic must yield to highway traffic. Driver only moved over since the left lane was empty.

Common sense. Do unto others rule applys here.

avator

it always irritates me off whenever I see people riding on the right side of the road coming up on an onramp. especially when there's clearly a vehicle trying to merge. common courtesy says to move over. common sense says to move over. it's amazing how many people don't do that. in my experience it's mostly been big ass trucks and people with Trump stickers on their vehicle. just saying

avator
Rick Remieres
Peabody, MA · 4 hours ago

Actually, that wa done because there was room for them to do it. It's the responsibility of the oncoming, to make sure they are able to, safely, enter the highway. Even if there is room to move over, the car does NOT have to move over.

avator
George W
Erie, PA · an hour ago

yeah I do that. not just for semis but for other vehicles. I know they're going to be trying to merge so why not give them the opportunity. it's called courtesy. and if a semi is in the right lane coming up on the area where somebody is going to need to merge. I will either slow down or speed up if I'm in the fast lane giving that semi the opportunity to move over to the fast lane so they can allow the person to merge into the lane of traffic. again it's called courtesy thinking about the driver and if I back off because I'm not going to pass him soon enough or if there's a big line of cars behind me that are going to be ignorant and not leave him room to get over, I will back off a little bit flash the lights so he sees I'm letting him in to the lane. if more people drove like this then we would have less accidents. also leave room between you and the person in front of you. there's no reason to be driving one car length behind another vehicle at 60 mph

technically it tis the trucks responsibility to merge over it isn't the small cars responsibility. it is written in the manual. and 2 yes he was a nice driver by merging over to let him in. but he didn't have to.

It's up to the driver who is merging into traffic to yield. I will move over to allow a big truck in IF I'm able to do so safely. Most people feel you are obligated to allow them in. Most don't even bother to slow down prior to trying to merge.
