I had the same thing happen with a splinter in my leg, when I was kid. My mom thought she had gotten it all out! A few months later I had what was left of the original splint break through my skin!

funny cause same thing happened to me i got a small piece of glass stuck in my finger for probably 8 yrs and it worked its way out cutting my other finger then I was able to pull it out it was a small sliver.
