Sweet! Believe it or not, we also had a goofy girl named Bella who used to do this same thing!! When on a walk and she was ready to go home, she would yank the leash out of my husband’s hand, pick up the “handle” of the leash and turn around and walk herself home! When she got home she would flop down on “her spot” and promptly fall asleep! Very obvious, she had enough of THAT walk!!

I had some drug addict relatives who lived in midtown Atlanta. they had a beautiful smart dog who would take herself five blocks to Piedmont Park, do whatever dogs do and then come back home through city traffic. fortunately she never got hit. Everyone in the neighborhood knew her. I was fortunately able to get custody of the dog once they got evicted again.
