i never stole, and then my oldest son was born there was only cloth diapers, and rubber pants. i washed them by hand and hang them all threw the apartment to dry. had no washer/dryer. I actually used dish towels (currently called a hand towel)worked great. if you can't afford throw away ones. grab a few big safety pins
For people who need help, there are places out there to help you. The Women's Clinic gives free diapers and other things as well. You can just walk in. Churches can help also. You don't need to put yourself in these situations. All you have to do is ask.

if she is that destitute, someone needs to take the baby and give it a home where it can be properly provided for. she needs help rather than enabling her to continue being a thief. possible mental evaluation would be a good idea as well.

I would have taken her back in there and got her a few big boxes, some wipes, baby food or formula, and some food or other necessities for mama. There’s too many kind people in this world for mamas to feel the need to steal something like diapers for your baby!
