It does not significantly alter its shape with the patient's breathing. This absence of collapse is commonly referred to as a 'plethoric IVC.' Typically, this condition suggests elevated central venous pressure. When a clinician observes a dilated, non-collapsing IVC in a patient experiencing acute pain, they are often investigating for Cardiac Tamponade, Pulmonary Embolism, or Congestive Heart Failure.
It is like listening to your pulse but you are seeing it instead. There is definitely a problem here. It looks like it is getting clogged up which would obviously cause issues with blood flow which would eventually cause issues to the heart. 🙏
