She collected them all her life , hope the kids appreciate them. Sad that at the end of our life it’s like idk nothing to some one else.
I am older and that is why I am starting to give all that stuff away now. I don't want to stick my kids with cleaning out my "collections" after I die. My kids don't want this kind of stuff anyway. I kept things because these would remind me of Grandma, but that is not how young people think these days.
I've already made the family announcement. If its not cash, property, bonds or can't fit in the casket with you, it's goin in the dumps. My mom said she's gonna find a way to put a restraining order on me, even in her death...
My husband collected Coca Cola for over 25 years. He passed 10 years ago on Valentines Day at 54yoa...I just can't part with it..I often find myself looking through marketplace and other sale sites and WISHING he was still here@@@#@@ The thrills he had finding and obtaining unique items..I loved him from 1982 to 2016..Guess I'm a hoarder???🙏🙏🙏
This is my grandmother's home. She's a collector or a "pack-rat" with all the knick-knacks of at least 70+ years collecting as she's 95 now. We just can't take in everything she collected. It's not possible. All the crystal and China sets will somehow or somewhere go with someone in the family. But figurines in every room on shelves. I love that lady to pieces. I'll miss her when it's her time. I'll have my cherished pieces that I'll take with me & years of memories and stories that I share with my kids, but, none of us could split her home and still have space in our own. It doesn't mean we love her less. It's just a reality of life and families that grow on their own.
My daughter would get the biggest trash bag she could handle and put in the trash. Not even donate, I dont think. She doesnt want anything of mine. She's gonna get a roll off container and pitch everything.
My kids are 49 in 45.I asked them if they want anything in the house. And they said toss it. the Kids nowadays don't want any of our stuff , and I can understand that.
I am not older but have spent the entire first half of my forties, fighting breast cancer. I'm terminal. So I'm giving away and getting rid of my stuff now, so that noone has to go through it once I pass.
My daughter 22, says she is throwing away or donating all my "stuff". She might feel different about a few things come the time. idk. Wish I was born a minimalist.
is that all salt and pepper shakers?????
SHE COLLECTED SALT & PEPPER SHAKERS FOR MANY YEARS. BET SHE CAN TELL YOU WHERE SHE GOT EVERYONE OF THEM & SOME INTRESTING STORIES ABOUT THEM. CHILDREN NOW DAYS DONT PUT VALUE ON ANYTHING. BET THEY MEANT THE WORLD TO HER. IF YOU BOX THEM UP "SAFELY" ID BUY FROM YOU & PAY THE SHIPPING !!! IM IN MONTANA.💕
🙏 poor Mom... she saw an empty spot and needed to fill it. I would only imagine what my Mom's brain is loke.
This is about learning to say no to ones self. I have a few SMALL collections of things I treasure but I learned years ago to stop going to stores, yard sales, online hunts to add more of anything to my home. I see many ‘things’ that i consider beautiful but I do not bring them home. So many of us enjiy the ‘hunt’ without grasping the meaning of clutter. Also I would rather have flowers or an occasional meal out than more stuff. This is not a criticism of those who have collections such as this. To each his or her own.
I need to start giving away or trashing all my stuff that no one will want. I'm 77.
I moved from a 3,000 square foot 3 bedroom home to a 600 square foot one bedroom apartment! I helped several family members furnish their apartments with almost new furniture as well as other nice pieces! Every year I go thru stuff and if I have not used it in a year or even looked at it, out the door it goes! Family has first dibs then it goes to Goodwill to find a new home! I also sent my collectibles to my kids! I did and do this so my family does not have to be burdened and while I still could take care of it myself! I am 78 now! Keeping all that stuff makes it too hard to get around, you cannot keep things clean!
Salt & pepper sets?
I collect salt & pepper shakers. would love to have them. Beautiful collection.
I’d check inside every set before I disposed of it! My late MIL hid multiple $20 bills throughout the hundreds of books she had! Over $7K!
I bought 3 bags of salt and pepper shakers at a yard sale for $9. Some of the mates were in different bags, so I bought them all. when all was said and done I had 28 sets dating back to the 1930's. I sold all but 2 sets which are in my kitchen. I made close to $1K. They were all in mint condition. I wonder if these people know how much they are worth!
for everyone who is saying there 30 and 40 year old kids re yelling u they don't want any of ir take it to the dump. me and the hubby would like to offer our services. you can on paper in ur will donate ur collections of stuff to ur now new son and daughter. 😆. we will gladly take over any salt and pepper lots or coffee mug lots anything really. because these kids are a holes now days don't appreciate stuff. that's ok I can appreciate the stuff for them lol.
Before you trash, sell, or give away any set, go through every one of them.... if they are not cracked or chipped, check online to see if her collection has any monetary value... Some salt and pepper sets are worth a bunch of money! And true collectors of antiques will pay to get them, even the plastic ones.
Get in touch with the show on the HGTV, called Junk or Jackpot. The Salt and Pepper sets and dishes, etc. here maybe worth a lot of money. Those types of items can be very collectable and valuable...just saying. 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
My GGM collected them too. Her 7 sons, all US Navy, would give them as gifts after deployments. When she passed away, They were divided up and given to the sons, grands & great grands. I was young, but I knew her. The set I was given, is 2 glass strawberries that hang from a "T" shaped stand. I recently found out, that they are uranium glass.
My godmother & her sister neither ever had any children of their own, but many godchildren, nieces & nephews. They were incredibly kind, sweet & generous little ladies---one collected salt & pepper shakers & the other collected tea cups. They had so, so many--I'm sure they were gifted most of them, being they were "easy" presents to give them (I, myself, was guilty of at least 50 of them...) They had them displayed all throughout their spotless homes & were always kept polished & dusted. As a child, I would just gaze at them, full of admiration for their beautiful, vast collections. Sometimes, they would give me one to take home for my very own & it would make me feel so special. You can only imagine how many they acquired being they both lived well into their 90's. You know, idk whatever became of all those cups & S&P shakers....it's been so very long ago. Thank you for stirring up a few very old, very warm childhood memories. 🥰🙏💕
I have a lot of Black art and other things. My kids and grandkids want it and I have started giving them some of it and my jewelry to them now so I can see them enjoy it like I have over the years
They better check the value of them.
Stop playing grandma knows what was doing some of those things are really old and they are valuable… put that in the trash, you will make somebody trash their treasure
My mamaw done this and divided them between all of her daughters and granddaughters. We were tickled to death. It brought such joy to each of us and each had special meaning. I miss her so so much. 🥺🩷
these comments are sad and I'm sorry your kids don't want any of your stuff. I'm a millennial and I'll keep a few things that meant the most to my mom. my husband and I are saving things now for our daughter that she can sell when she's older for money if she wants or she can keep it. we will be dead, it won't matter to us then, if it benefits her great if not then she doesn't need to keep it. all of our firearms, graded baseball cards, expensive jewelry, swords from Japan, etc will all be left to her and have value
Some are probably collectibles and worth at least a fair amount. Is a stunning collection!!! 🙀♥️🙏
Everything I have isn't the item itself. In my mind, it is "Oh, my brother gave me that", or "this was my grandparent's set", my first pair and that is how my collection started. Everything represents a person, or a trip or an event or a loss. I don't see that kind of connection in the younger kids today. How sad.....and lonely. For me, all my things keep all my memories alive.
Is she vacuuming the wooden floor? 😅
That is quite the collection. Wow!
Im sure some of those could have value, I hope they're not thrown away!
My mom keeps talking to me about all her stuff. She’s got so many different kinds of collections. I don’t know how many sets of dishes she has. She has collections of brass and copper kitchen kettles that are hanging, hour glasses, angels, the list goes on and on. It’s just my brother and I and my brother has dementia. All of our daughters, in-laws, since my brother and I only had boys, are not interested in knickknacks! And my sister-in-law and I have our own homes decorated our way and no room for a bunch of stuff. I have told my mom when the day comes. I will respect every last thing she has in her house. I will have the kids come in and pick out what they want and after that, I will have an estate sale. I will not throw anything in the trash! I will be next and we love what we have but we do not expect our children to take it and keep it. I think this is a very hard subject for elderly people who really really love their things. Very understandable.
ok, someone needs a hobby.
I would feel blessed to know someone thought of me enough to leave me something they collected and ment so much to them 💕🙏🏼
Garage sale.
money spent 😲
I'm not foolish.I know when I'm gone most of my things will be donated That's ok.I enjoyed them while I was here and no one ever. made fun of me
How disrespectful. Who does this?!? It makes a mockery of the deceased. They were her treasures, and NOT our business.
EBAY Time!! Don't trash when you can turn it into cash.😆
how many cupboards does she have. i couldn't for that into my whole house
there's probably a few bucks $$ in that collection
My son will cuss me when I’m gone😂😂😂😂
Donate to woman's shelter... I can think of alot of people who are getting out of abuse who would love a free 🧂 Shaker set for their new apartment 🤔 🌸
I've been looking for salt and pepper shakers, now I know where they are 😂😆
I told my children not to sympathize with anything that I collected during my lifetime. pictures of us are all that you will need to remember me. Have a great life and don't worry about what you should or shouldn't keep 💕💕💕
Wow I like collecting stuff too 😂 but my stuff going with me they all my friends 🤗
WooooW!! Many of those are wonderful collectors items!!!!
seems like its a ghost there
S & P big collection!😲😆
Well vacuums wood floors.
GOOD FOR HER
That’s how I feel now that I’m retired. Start selling all my collectibles cause I know my son doesn’t want them. Although my grandson has asked for a few.
Gahhhhhhhhhhhh
I love collecting and I have a good assortment. My son saids I am a hoarder and no one wants my “ junk”. He said when I die he is going to open the front door so the buyers can come in and he will be at the back door collecting the money on their way out🙀Kids just don’t appreciate anything.
looks like my mom's home. we split some of those between us and the rest we sold with tears. from all the years we gave to Mom💞
That’s a great table! Quite the collection
