In the 1590s, drinking spots became "bars" because of the physical counter (or barrier) that blocked the public from the liquor supply. The word originally meant a literal rod or rail, making "Beer and Alcohol Room" just a modern myth.

Bar comes from bar top where the alcohol was served. The beam would bar doors. I looked it up. My version is abbreviated.

Well it used to be saloon or tavern .And in restaurants the BAR was a separate area where liquor was served. So l guess it can be interpreted that way . But is a room with just tables a bar. Or does it have to have a bar .Now l am really confused what the hell is a dairy bar. Oh the hell with it l need a drink now.
