My ex-father-in-law put a brand new Hitachi excavator in the bottom of a pond. Once he realized it was sliding it was already too late. Luckily he had enough sense to turn the engine off when he realized he couldn't save it. It took two rotators and a big loader to get it out. Flushed it out, new fluids and filters, and it was running again. It did however ruin everything that was electronic.
