My parents made it very clear before even getting to the car to go to the store that whichever child had to promise to behave cuz if they didn't, they would be out to the car in a flash and that would be the last time we would be allowed to go. if we were good, usually Mom would allow us to pick out one type of cereal we wanted or something like that but that was at the end of the trip.

That might happen for a second, it would be the last time. I’d stop shopping, take the child to the car. He’d realize conniptions mean we leave instantly, and he gets nothing. We try another day, and will do it again until he understands temper tantrums don’t work with me, and I am able stay calm. I raised three children, and that didn’t happen once!
