The problem in this country isn't really government, it's corporations that use government to funnel massive amounts of money to themselves. If there wasn't so much money in politics it might not be so bad but we turned our government into a business, focused solely on making money instead of working for the people. When money is you're sole focus well-being comes second, or maybe third. Now we put the ultimate crooked corporate crook in charge and he's destroying or selling off the parts that don't enrich him. He does whatever he can to enrich his partners so that they work to enrich him too and we, the "employees" get shafted and it's all good as long as it doesn't come back to him.
and it was so much easier to defraud people because there was no way to make sure they are legit, like a permit issued by the govt, or a license issued by the govt denoting proper training in your field. not just some right wing nut job trying to defraud the public

We had smaller government who didn’t get involved in states’ affairs. Democrats like to have their hands in everything and I find that very unnecessary and disrespectful! We are not children! Republicans like smaller government! Reagan said it very well in a speech and Trump refers to the speech often and has done away with redundant offices in DC.

Every bit of that is so true, except that it wasn't even 125 years ago. When I was a child I used to go fishing all the time without a license and with parents that didn't use a license, we hunted freely, we built whatever we needed on our own property, we never notified anyone of gun purchases could buy guns at auto parts stores. My Uncle started a business out of his house that progressed into the storefront that gave him a lifelong career. This is not possible today!

Yep there are laws against collecting rain water. You are allowed to collect it before it hits the ground but not after. So you cannot build a private reservoir on your own land.
125 years ago, there were little to no standards that protected the general public from: water born illnesses, over fishing, proper building codes, marriage fraud, diseases spread by untrained barbers, product safety requirements, and dangerous food handling. We are far from perfect today but have better standards and protections today. This is the definition of civilization. Don’t like it? Start your own country.
