I had that exact same slow cooker back in the 80's.
I would rather eat off the clean counter she momentarily put her foot on than eat a pot-luck with unknowns (and some I know)! These folks are obviously 4 adults sharing a meal and enjoying the CLEAN kitchen together. I went to a meeting at a lady's house (with food), a board of 13, their wives and kids, and there were 2 dead puppies in the corner from the litter birthed 2 days earlier. 🤔 Her only comment was that the kids were assigned the task of dealing with it, and they "weren't holding up their end of the bargain. I had to stop at her house years later to drop off paperwork, and a different dog peed down the side of her leg/feet while we were talking (yes, in the kitchen). She looked at me and commented that "she gets excited", then finished our conversation while standing in the puddle. I left before I had to witness what she did from there! I will NOT eat anything served by that organization ever if she is within 1000 miles of the event!
You should be able to release it by turning the knob on the top, not pulling it. Or sliding it to the edge.

If you pour hot water on it, expanding the molecules under the lid, it will reverse the pressure releasing it.

Why would you even put the lid like that? Put it so the handle is on the counter, problem solved. Yes, it's probably hot/ warm but I've always done it handle down and never been burned. At the very least, put a paper towel down and then put the lid on it.
You might try keeping the counter top clean so things don't get stuck
