Not because service guarantees virtue, but because it forges duty, discipline, and accountability. I don’t want leaders who’ve never been tested or who treat authority as a career move. I want leaders who know what real responsibility feels like—where decisions have consequences measured in lives, not headlines. Someone who has faced armed conflict understands the true cost of war and won’t send young people into harm’s way lightly. Leadership shouldn’t belong to the untested or the comfortable. It should be a burden carried by those who’ve already proven they can put service before self, consequences before ego, and duty above ambition.
